Text | John: We have that Frances Miriam Merrill, b. 1834 Jul 7 in Truxon, Cortland, NY, d. 1899 Jan 1 [where?], d/o Lewis Long (7) and Lucy Matthews, m. 1st Richard Carmon, and 2nd Pierre Badetty [no dates]. We have no info about the children of Frances Miriam with either of her husbands, but probably would not have recorded them even if they had been in the original reference. With info on well over 60,000 Merrill males plus wives and daughters, we have our hands full just trying to follow the Merrill surname. We get the daughters m. and that is as far as we carry them. As Deane pointed out, the lineage for Lewis Long (7) given in Cutter's Genealogy of Central NY is in error. The correct lineage is Nathaniel (6,5), John (4), Nathaniel (3,2,1). More details are available. Sorry we could not resolve the question of Herbert Badetty's parents, but we can confirm that Frances Miriam m. Pierre Badetty, but we don't know when. Since Herbert was b. in 1845 he should be with his parents in the 1850 census, which is the first census which lists every member of the household by name. Oops! Just looked at the 1850 census record for Lewis Long (7). Frances M, 17, is still with her parents, so she has not yet m. her 1st husband Richard Carmon by 1850. If Herbert Badetty was b. 1845, then Frances Miriam Merrill cannot be his mother, but may be his stepmother. Apparently their's was a 2nd m. for BOTH Pierre and Frances Miriam. Don't know who Pierre's 1st wife was. Howard and Jean Merrill | |
