Two persons were drowned while surf bathing along the South Shore of Suffolk on Sunday ....
The two, whose bodies have been recovered, are Richard Learned, 35, of Port Washington, wh drowned at Smith Point, and ....
Mr. Learned was bathing shortly before noon, with his wife and young son on the beach nearby, when he was carried out into deep water and disappeared.
The body was recovered by Coast Guard Crews from the Bellport and Forge River stations. Boatswain's Mate Daniels brought the body to the mainland. It was taken to Sharp's Funeral home, Patchogue, where services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Hanington Wilson, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church, officiating, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond crematory, Middle Village.
Mr. Learned leaves his wife, Doris, a son, Richard, Jr., his father, Richard A. Learned of Teaneck, N.J., two brothers, Leslie, of Astoria, and Guy of Pasadena, Cal., and an aunt, Miss Ellen Learned of Brookhaven.
