      Mr. and Mrs. Heywood Shannon and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mapes and their sons, Frank, Jr., George and Kenneth, attended the christening of little Lois Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Simpson of Brookhaven at the Episcopal church in Brookhaven on Sunday. Frank Simpson is a son of Mrs. Shannon and brother of Mrs. Mapes. George Mapes celebrated his twelfth birthday on May 24.

      Heyward H. Shannon, 70, died Thursday at his residence on Middle Island road, Yaphank, after an extended illness.

      Born in Connecticut, Mr. Shannon came to Yaphank 26 years ago. He was an ex-chief of the Yaphank Fire department and at the time of his death was vice president of the Game Breeders National association.

      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriot Shannon; a son, Frank A. Simpson of Brookhaven; a daughter, Mrs. Frank E. Mapes of Yaphank and five grandchildren.

      Fire department services were held at the Pettit funeral home, Patchogue, on Saturday night. Funeral services were conducted at the Yaphank Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. William Schram of the Port Jefferson Presbyterian church officiating.

      Interment was made in the Yaphank cemetery.
