Desmond Nelson, 88, of South Country road, Brookhaven, died Friday at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.
Born in New York city, he lived in Brookhaven for 51 years. He was a retired farmer and member of St. James Episcopal church in Brookhaven. Formerly, for 18 years, he was trreasurer of St. James church.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ethel Nelson of Brookhaven; two nephews, Norman F. Nelson and Alfred Nelson, both of Brookhaven; and two nieces.
Services were held at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal church, Brookhaven, with theRev. Richard Gray, rector, officiating. Interment was in Woodland cemetery, Bellport. Funeral arrangements were made by C.W. Ruland Sons of Patchogue.

Alfred and Emily were married 21 August 1860 at St. Thomas Church, Ravenswood, Queens, Long Island by the Rev S.W, Sayres. Witness: William Nelson, father of Alfred. The Holy Bible, London ca. 1856, was a wedding present given to Emily by her God-mother, Mary Grace Raoul, daughter of Mary Fairlie (her aunt) and Thomas Abthorpe Cooper.
