    • Her gravestone records her name as "Theodosie."
      Theodosie Carman, Samuel Carman Sr.'s daughter, was likely the same person as the Theodosia Smith recorded in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. She was living near to Samuel, Jr. (who would have been her brother), and she had property. She married a Seth Smith who by 1850 is deceased. (Seth Smith does not appear to have been of the "Tangier" Smith family of the Manor of St. George. Her sister, Hannah, did marry William Smith 'Tangier'.) "Mrs. Theodosie Smith" is buried in the Carman Family Cemetery in South Haven.

      At a Court of Chancery held for the State of New York, at the city of New York, on the twenty-ninth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine. Present, Reuben H. Walworth, Chancellor.
      THE0DOCIA SMITH vs. SETH SMITH.} I appearing by affidavit to the satisfaction of this Court that process of subpoena to appear and and answer in this cause has been regularly issued against the above named defendant, Seth Smith, but that upon diligent search and inquiry made intermediate the teste and return of the said subpoena, he could not be found to be served therwith; and it further appearing by the said affidavit that the said defendant is not within the United States but in foreign parts, viz: in Porto Rico--On motion of J.H. Lee, Esquire, Solicitor for the complemant, it is ordered that the said defendant, Seth Smith, enter his appearance and file his answer to the complainant's bill of complain: in this cause, within nine months from the date of this order, or in default thereof, that the said complainant's bill be taken pro confesso against him. And it is further ordered, that a copy of this order be published within twenty days from the date hereof in one or more of the public newspapers printed in this state, and be continued therein for eight weeks successively, once at least in each of the said weeks.
