Thomas and his wife are living next door to his brother Stephen according to the 1920 Federal Census for Delaware, USA>

The following notes are written by Steve Henderson:

Thomas Harvey Austin was born in Amityville [Copiague] on his father's farm. He was with his parents there in I860. He was apprenticed to learn the trade of blacksmithing at 15 in Woodbury, Queens County, but he stayed there only a few weeks before returning home. In 1870 he was living with his parents in Copiague, engaged in farming. "Here he secured employment during one summer with Peter Birch, earning enough during this time to pay his board, and then went to Babylon, where he worked for Sammis & Cornelius. He remained with them for four and a half years, during that time receiving fair wages. It is very much to his credit that over and above his expenses he saved several hundred dollars that he laid by for a nest egg. He was then employed by Austin Corbin to work on the Manhattan Beach Railroad, remaining thus engaged for two years and nine months. In 1879 he started in the blacksmith business for himself, building his shop where it now stands, and where he has since done a thriving business." In 1880 he and his wife were living near his mother and brother, Stephen in the Copiague area of the Town of Babylon. Harvey was a blacksmith at the time.
He was a Republican, having voted for Gen. U. S. Grant in 1872 and was Game Constable from 1882-1883. He was also a charter member of New Point Lodge No.677,1.O.O.F., a member of Unqua Lodge, K. of P., and a charter member of the Order of Junior American Mechanics. In 1900 Thomas and Mary lived in the Town of Babylon where he owned a farm and was a farmer.

In 1880 Harvey's wife was listed as Ida L. Austin

The following notes were written by Steve Henderson:

Eliza Hulse was married by Rev. George Tomlinson to Daniel Austin on 15 February 1843 in Fire Place, Brookhaven Town.3 She was with Daniel in Copiague in 18505, I8601', and 1870 when she was listed as keeping house.12 Lavenia Hulse (age 44 in I860" and age 50 in I86012) was living with them. She was probably a sister of Eliza. In 1860 Lavenia was listed as a tailoress11 and in 1870 was listed as having no occupation.12 In 1880 Eliza was living with her son Stephen in the Town of Babylon.16 This was probably the family farm in Copiague.
