He left a will on 5 November 1747. His will mentions a wife Sarah and children John, Francis, Ambrose, Thomas, William, James and Richard. His will was proved/probated on 29 May 1750 in Colony of Virginia.
"General Hawkins calls him a French Hugenot so he was probably born in France. William was also known as Calas; Calas was the original French spelling. William anglicized it to Callis. He was a ship's carpenter."
