(Brooklyn. Undated.). [S317] Edna Valentine Bruce: This comment has been attributed to Edna Valentine Bruce. Unfortunately, the source where this comment appeared seems to have been misfiled. From Edna Valentine: "Mrs. Corwin(sp), 'cousin Maria', told me that Francis and Sarah were very fond of books and in the evening would sit in the doorway and read to each other. They lived in the "Old Barteau Place" on South County Road at top of hill in Brookhaven. She also said that people would come to Sall for the recipes because she was known all over as a very good cook." "Maria" was Maria Hepzibah Barteau (1836-1911), wife of Sylvester Corwin (1822-1908). Maria would have been a first cousin three times removed to Francis Barteau, and a fourth cousin to Edna Sarah Valentine. Edna would have been about 29 wen Maria died.
