Captain Edward Knowles Mott died of Bright's disease at the home of his brother-in-law, Edward J. Udall at Babylon omn Monday, aged 47 years. He was born at West Sayville, and never having married, he lived there during most of his life with his parents, Captain and Mrs. John Mott. When a young man he was for a short time a clerk in the store of Wilson J. Terry, but later embarked in the coasting trade with his father. Some years later he brought the schooner Jane Harris and sailed her for a number of years. The boat was then sold to Jacob Ockers of Oakdale and two or three years ago was wrecked off the southern coast. After selling his vessel, Mr. Mott erected a building on Main street, West Sayville, and opened a hardware and general merchandise store. He sold his business to Louis Braudt about a year ago and shortly afterward moved to Babylon, where he has since resided. He was a man of quiet demeanor and had a wide circle of friends. deceased is survived by an aged father, Captain John Mott, a brother, Egbet S. Mott, a Brooklyn real estate broker, and two sisters: Mrs. Edward J. Udall and Mrs. Sidney Brown of Babylon. The funeral was held from the Sayville M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon, the H. S. Still officiating. Interment in the family plot in the Union cemetery.
