      The preponderance of sources, including Frost and Mallmann, suggest that Sarah Haven's mother is Abigail Bostwick. The FamilySearch Ancestral File record indicates ambiguity, suggesting an Ellen Bostwick, in addition to Abigail, as both another possible spouse of John Havens and Abigail's mother. Frost records a birth date of 6 May 1790; Mallman recorded 6 May 1791. The 1850 Census records an age of 59 on the enumeration date of 1 Jun 1850, suggesting that the 1791 date is more likely.

      Some sources suggest she was born on Shelter Island, NY, but this conclusion was likely due to a false interpretation of Mallmann's book; Mallmann generally does not record a place of birth for the Shelter Island founders' descendants, and one should not assume that all descendants were born on Shelter Island. Sarah Havens parents were known to have lived in the Moriches. Sarah's father is known to have been a trustee of the South Haven Presbyterian Church; and her brother is recorded as having bought a pew in the church.
