  • Notes
    • [I am uncertain as to this Mordecai's ancestors. Mordecai is a common given name among the Homan's of the time. There are several candidates to whom he could be linked; yet I have yet to find one with a son Silas -- a relationship clearly identified in the South Haven Presbyterian Church records. Both a Mordecai and Silas appear in the 1820 United States census adjacent to each other in the listing, and with others who appear to be residents of South Haven and Fire Place, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, NY. While there is a Mordecai Homan recorded in the 1830 census for the Town of Brookhaven, he does not appear to have been living in the South Haven/Fire Place hamlets, nor is the family structure consistent with the our Mordecai.
