      MRS. MARY SMITH'S FUNERAL

The funeral of Mrs. Mary B. Smith, whose death occurred on Saturday [11 Feb 1928], was held Tuesday afternoon [14 Feb 1928] from her late residence on Montauk Highway, Brookhaven, and the Methodist church, being largely attended. The music was most impressive. Mrs. Jesse Johnson was organist. "Rock of Ages" was sung by Mrs. Frederick D. Swezey. A delegation from the Old Glory Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, conducted their rites after a brief service by the Rev. Louis H. Johnston of Patchogue. The flowers were numerous and beautiful. Mrs. Smith was widely known and very highly esteemed. Mrs. Smith was the youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Breckinridge and was a direct descendant of Hendrice H. Van Duesenburough and Martze Van Haarlem, from Haarlem, Holland, who were among the first settlers of the New Netherlands.
