  [Who was the Bethia Hawkins residing in the household of Azel Hawkins in the 1850 census? Both Hawkins volumes do not give a Bethia or Elizabeth as a daughter of Azel Hawkins and Elizabeth Ryder. Nor do I find a likely candidates among Elizabeth Hawkins' in the Hawkins genealogies. Of course, the surname given in the 1850 census may be a married name. If she was Azel's daughter, he would have been about 17 at the time of her birth; there is also a discrepancy between Bethia's age as given in the 1850 census (46, <1804>) and Azel's and Elizabeth's marriage date (17 Jan 1808). Her given name was probably Elizabeth, with Bethia used as a nickname If she were a daughter, the nickname would have distinguished her from her mother. For now, I've included Bethia as a child of Azel, but this relationship is far from certain. ]
