Charles V. Reeve, 80, who many years ago operated a sporting good store on East main St., Bay Shore, passed away on Friday. He resided at 53 Redmond Ave.
Mr. Reeve pursued two very interesting hobbies: At one time he was a foremost amateur trainer of trotting horses and had his own training track near his home. A chicken fancier, he raised Plymouth Buff Rock hens and won many prizes at county fairs.
At one time, Mr. Reeve was employed in the Building Department of the Town of Islip. His sporting goods store during the 1920s and 1930s was a popular gathering place. Mr. Reeve had one of the first radio receiving sets in the community.
Mr. Reeve leaves his widow, Dorothy; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Salamone of patchogue and Isabelle Parris of Islip Terrace; two sons, Forrest P. Reeve of Islip and Frank of Bay Shore; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was a former member of the Bay Shore Fire Department and the Bay Shore Rotary Club.
The service was Monday morning at the Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Brookhaven.
