Elizabeth Hawkins is here [Eureka, CA]. She and her sea captain husband left New York and came to Eureka, Humboldt, California. Frederick was captain of the Hesperian a lumber schooner owned by William Carson, "another part of my family" Elizabeth and their three children often traveled with him. On a trip to southern Calif. Frederick was hit by the boom of the ship and knocked overboard. He was never found. Elizabeth and her three children returned to Eureka. She later married a Mr.Fay who had a shipyard. After his death she returned to the name of Wilkinson, and lived in Eureka until her death in 1907.
Elizabeth Hawkins burial place is here at Myrtle Grove Cemetery. Sadly there is no marker, and I do not even know what part of the cemetery she is in! The records have been lost. There is no memorial marker for her husband Frederick Douglas Wilkinson who died at sea Nov. 6, 1874.
