He taught school and was a merchant in Ontario for many years before
buying a farm south of Brandon, manitoba in 1883. In 1891 he moved to
hartney, Manitoba and for some years was associated as bookkeeper wit his
      eldest son, Dr. F.B. Woodhull,
who had bought a drug store there taht same year. In 1895 the Rural
Municipality of Cameron was incorporated and Mr. Woohull was appointed
Secretary-Treasurer at a salary of $200.00 a year and he provided his
own office over the drug store!
He had never aspired to public office but he found this association with
local governmect very satisfying. In 1905 the town of Hartney was
incorperated and he was appointed its Secretary-treasurer also,
contiuing in these offices untill his
death in 1930. He was a quiet man rather reserved except with his wife
and family to whom he was devoted. He and his wife were Methodists and
fond of music and literature. They took pains to provide each of their
      children with a good
education. Mr. Woodhull took a great interest in the Hartney Star,
founded in 1895 by his son, Dr. Woodhull.
