Obituary - John R. L'Hommedieu, aged 73, died Monday at his home on South Howell's Point Road, Bellport, after an illness.

Mr. L'Hommedieu, a resident of Bellport for the past six years, was born in East Norwalk, Conn., one of 13 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard L'Hommedieu. He was the last surviving member of the family.

Both of his parents were originally from Middle Island, his mother being the former Miss Mary Petty. His father was a carpenter, who maintained a home for his family in Middle Island for some years, then moved to Bellport, and in 1870, to East Norwalk.

Mr. L'Hommedieu was for many years in the grocery business in East Norwalk, in partnership with his brother, the late Daniel L'Hommedieu. On the latter's death, Mr. L'Hommedieu went with the Yale & Towne Company in Stamford, Conn., where he served in the stock tool room for 13 years. He later returned to the grocery business, managing a store until he came back to Bellport.

In March 1943, he and his wife, Mrs. Mary F. L'Hommedieu, observed their golden wedding anniversary.

Besides his wife, Mr. L'Hommedieu leaves a son, Earle B. L'Hommedieu, of New York.

A private funeral was held at 2:30 yesterday in the C.W. Ruland Sons' Funeral Chapel, North Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, Otto R. Enck of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Patchogue, officiating. Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Patchogue.
