Shock, induced by fear when he was suddenly plunged into deep water in the Bellport swimming pool, cost the life early yesterday afternoon of William Kayton, Jr., 15-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kayton of New Jersey avenue, Bellport. Although state police and Lieutenant Charles F. MacNeil of the local department worked over the body of the lad for close to three hours they were unable to revive him. Both police and Dr. Silas R. Corwin of Bellport and Dr. William Neuss of Yaphank, pronounced death due to shock rather than drowning.

The Kayton boy together with Peter Grucci and Michael Irocci, both 15, and both living on Railroad avenue, Bellport, were playing about the pool on a raft. The pool, at that end where they were playing, is about eight feet deep and is built out into the bay with the sides bulkheaded up from the bottom to a height of about ten feet. There were workmen engaged in getting the pool in shape for the summer.

According to the story secured by Corporal James Lenihan and Trooper Herman Bohack of the state police, none of the boys could swim. It was shortly after noon when young Kayton, getting close to the edge of the device, lost his balance and fell into the water. Leroy Post and Samuel Peterson, who were working on the pool, promptly recovered him and carried him to the south end of the pool. Mrs. Clara Donofrio and Margaret Agnetti witnessed the tragedy.

Police were notified and the inhalator of the Patchogue department was used without success. Both doctors declared that the lad had not been the water long enough to drown. He was pronounced dead at 3 o'clock and permission was given by Coroner Grower A. Silliman of Sayville for the removal of the body to Sharp's funeral parlors here.

Besides his parents the boy leaves three brothers, Joseph, Carl and John, and one sister Laura. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the R.C. church of Mary Immaculate in Bellport, the Rev. Aloysius Gillick officiating, with interment in the Patchogue Catholic cemetery.
