      Mrs. Harriet Shannon, 71, of Locust avenue, Brookhaven, died at Brookhaven Memorial hospital Tuesday after an extended illness.

      Born in England, Mrs. Shannon had lived in this vicinity for the past 30 years. She was a life member of the Nokomis chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Great Neck; and a member of the Yaphank-Middle Island Presbyterian church. Mrs. Shannon was also past president of the Ladies Aid society of the church.

      She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Frank Mapes of Yaphank; a son, Frank Simpson of Brookhaven and five grandchildren.

      The body will repose at the Pettit Funeral Home, Patchogue, until 2 p.m. today, when funeral services will be held at the Yaphank-Middle Island Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Carl Silver, pastor of the church, and James Barton of Stony Brook, officiating.

      Interment will follow in Yaphank cemetery, Yaphank.
