Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Patchogue, for George Pusins of 140 Robinson Avenue, East Patchogue, whose 1951 car fell on his chest Friday afternoon while he was removing a starter from it.
The Rev. Richard C. Chapin officiated at the services for the 39-year -old father of four. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Brookhaven hamlet. Arrangements were made by the Pettit Funeral Home.
Fifth Precinct Patrolman Anthony Palumbo said that the bumper jack slipped sideways while Mr. Pusins was on his back under the front end of the car at the Robinson Avenue address. His sister, Mrs. Pearl Reed, with whom he and his mother, Gertrude, shared the house, found him. Since the vehicle had no tires or wheels, the coil spring came down on Mr. Pusins, apparently suffocating him. Ptl. Palumbo rejacked the car, and pulled Mr. Pusins from under it.
Mr. Pusins had been disabled in 1957. While working for Mike Stiriz, general contractor of Lake Drive, Patchogue, he was driving a crane truck, which was in collision with a Long Island Rail Road train in Yaphank.
On Friday, Dr. Jack R. Muth pronounced Mr. Pusins dead. Dr. George J. Adler of the medical examiner's office authorized the body to be removed to the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital morgue. Fifth Squad Dets. Louis DeVito and Rupert Behan were also called to the scene.
Mr. Pusins was born July 1, 1925 in Manhattan. He served in the United States Navy.
Surviving are his mother; a sister; four children, Mrs. Nanette Tucker of East Northport, Kathleen Pusins of East Northport, George Pusins, III, of Sheldon Avenue, EP [East Patchogue], and Lizbeth of 140 Robinson Avenue, EP, and one granddaughter, Tammie Tucker of East Northport.
