LOCAL HISTORIAN GEORGE P. MORSE DIES IN B'HAVEN

George Perley Morse, 63, of Beaver Dam road, Brookhaven, a retired engineering consultant, died Friday at his home after a short illness.

retiring to this area some 25 years ago from Brooklyn, Mr. Morse became interested in the history of Brookhaven village. His most recent effort was helping establish a historical society in Brookhaven. He collected material and photographs on historic homes and spots, including a map of the old houses and roads and recently wrote several articles for The Patchogue Advance on the Brookhaven railroad station and the old grist mill in South Haven.

A past president of the Brookhaven village association, he played a part in the association's establishing Squassux landing at the end of Beaver Dam road on Carman river. For a number of years, he and his wife operated the Chapel house antique shop on South Country road at Chapel avenue.

Mr. Morse had attended Stevens Institute of Technology and had been a specialist in materials handling equipment in the New York area. Commanding officer of a submarine chaser in the Mediterranean area in World War I, he received the Navy Cross. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution, Wading River Historical society, Bellport Bay Yacht club and Old Inlet club.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Stelling Morse, two daughters, Mrs. John H. Muller of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Mrs. ... Atwood of New York city, and two granddaughters, Mary Klee and Emily Muller.

A private funeral service was held Monday at Ruland's Funeral Home and interment was in the family plot at Suffern.
