Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Corrigan of Brookhaven announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Jane Corrigan, to Vernon A. O'Rourke, Ph. D., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William O;Rourke od Detroit, Mich., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Renaud of Canada.
Miss Corrigan attended Friend's academy of Locust Valley and was graduated from Chatham hall, Chatham, Va., in 1932. Dr. O'Rourke was graduated from Johns Hopkins university Graduate school in 1931 and is now a professor of economics at St. John's university in Brooklyn. In 1932 he was chosen as one of the outstanding students of the country and was sent abroad to study international relations at the Geneva peace conference. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Sigma.
The wedding will probably take place in June and the couple plan to make their home in New York. Announcement of the engagement was made Tuesday evening at a buffet supper given by Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan at their home. The guests included Mrs. Carl Schmidt of Chicago, Harold F. Sylvester of Baltimore, Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Smith of Plandome, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C. Earle of Great Neck, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Law of Queens Village, Mr. and Mrs. E. Elmer Spedick and Miss Carol Spedick of Garden City, John Austin of New York, and Mr. and Mrs. George Borthwick.

Memorial service. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church for Vernon O'Rourke, who died on January 24, 2003. It is requested that there be no flowers. Anyone wishing to remember Vernon or Jane O'Rourke is welcome to do so with a contribution to the Shelter Island Library.

O'Rourke--Jane, wife of Vernon O'Rourke, died suddenly at her home in the Village of Dering Harbor, November 21. She was born in Brooklyn, November 4, 1915 and spent her early years with her parents in Brookhaven Village in Suffolk County. Her father, Walter E. Corrigan was a builder of apartment buildings in Brooklyn and the owner of a nursery in Brookhaven. Her mother, Augusta Sanford Corrigan was born in Hauppauge in Suffolk County. Jane O'Rourke was a graduate of Chatham Hall Academy in Lynchburg and Colby Junior College in NH. Her marriage to Vernon O'Rourke took place May 32, 1937 in Brookhaven. The family purchased the property called West Gate in the Village of Dering Harbor in 1969 and moved there permanently in 1973. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club in NYC, the Shelter Island Yacht Club and the Gardiners Bay Country Club. For some twelve years she worked as a volunteer in the Shelter Island Public Library and was responsible for selecting and ordering books purchased by the library. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Thomas Brian of Philadelphia, Richard Sanford of Longwood, FL. and Terence of Redwood City, CA, as well as seven grandchildren. Arrangements for a memorial service will be made in the weeks ahead.

Brookhaven, L.I., May 31. The marriage of Miss Jane Corrigan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Corrigan, to Professor Vernon A. O'Rourke of New York took place this afternoon at the home of the bride's parents on Beaver Dam Road. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. George Borthwick, pastor of the South Haven Presbyterian Church.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a print dress and a white straw hat. She was unattended. Henry Smith of Baltimore was best man.
After a wedding trip the couple will make their home in New York.
The bride attended Friends Academy in Locust Valley and was graduated from Chatham Hall, Chatham, Va., in 1932.
Professor O'Rourke, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. O'Rourke of Detroit, is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Adlor Renaud of Canada. He received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University in 1933 and is now Professor of Economics at St. John's University in Brooklyn. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and of Kappa Sigma.
