Martha had married Isaac Howland, who was a distant relative. When Isaac and Martha Howland purchased it, it included the farm behind our house (later owned by the Wellingtons). Martha was related to the ancestors of Hetty Green closely enough to inherit $12,000 upon Hetty Green's death.
