CAPT. JAMES DAYTON—The funeral of the late Capt. James Dayton, of Patchogue, took place on Tuesday from the Methodist Church, the services being conducted by the Rev. J. W. Maynard, pastor of the church. Capt. Dayton, who has been ailing for several years, died Saturday night at his home in Brook street. He was 71 years of age and had lived in Patchogue since he was a young man, having come from Fire Place, his birthplace being Westhampton, L.I. Death was due to old age and general debility, the man having followed the calling of a bayman for the greater part of his life. He was married by the Rev. Daniel Brown, at Fire Place, L.I., nearly fifty years ago, and the good wife who had shared his joys and struggles all those years was spared to minister to him in the declining years of his life. Deceased was an Odd Fellow, and for thirty years was also a member of the Methodist Church. About five years ago Capt. Dayton lost his twin brother, William, to whom he was devotedly attached, and since that time had not enjoyed one son, Philip Dayton, of Brooklyn, and one daughter, Mrs. William Seymour of Chester, Pa. Two brothers, Capt Edwin Dayton and Charles T. Dayton, the former of Patchogue, and the latter of Brooklyn, also survive. Also one sister, Mrs. Nancy Still, of Patchogue. The interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
