      Edward Brewster Barteau
      Edward "Bruce" Brewster Barteau, 83, of New Bern, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
      Mr. Barteau served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Barteau retired to New Bern 24 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was a past master of the Bayshore Lodge, Long Island, and a member of the Berne Masonic Lodge in New Bern. An avid baseball fan, he also enjoyed boating and fishing. He was a faithful member of Garber United Methodist Church.

      Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Connie Barteau.

      He is survived by two sons, Curtis Barteau, and his wife, Barbara, of Long Island, N.Y., and David Barteau of New Bern; three grandchildren, Stephen Barteau, Lisa Shields and her husband, Bobby, and Laura Barteau; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Barteau, Kevin Barteau, Hailey Shields and Kaitlyn Shields.

      The family will received friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Garber United Methodist Church, with memorial services beginning at 4 p.m. with the Rev. John Check and the Rev. Kent Smith officiating.
