At his request, there were no funeral services for Mason I. Hawkins, 1115 Federal Ave. E, who died Monday at his home. There was cremation.
Born in Denver, Mr. Hawkins came here in 1898. He attrended the University of Washington. He worked for the Copper River & Northwestern Railway Co. in Alaska before joining the Navy during World War I. He assisted in production of the NC-4 which in 1919 became the first plane to cross the Atlantic non-stop. He returned here in the late 1920s and became civilian inspector of naval aircraft at the Boeing Co. In 1934 he became director of inspection of naval aircraft at Hartford, Conn., and returned here to become civilian director-inspector of naval material, retiring in 1955.
Surviving are his wife, Marguerite; daughter, Mrs. Arnold Wisbeck, Mercer Island; a sister, Mrsd. John F. Collins, Seattle, and a brother, Howard H. Hawkins, Vashon Island.
