In later years, Mr. Homan was a cabinet maker.
He was active in the affairs of the Congregational Church and was a trustee and deacon for many years.

Homan's Mark Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John S. Homan quietly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday at their home at 199 Greene Avenue, Sayville, where they have lived for nearly 40 years. One of the best-known builders in this vicinity, Mr. Homan is no longer able, at the age of 88, to leave the house, but Mrs. Homan, who is 86, takes care of their home and does the cooking, although she has help with the cleaning.
Mrs. Homan, the former Sarah Osborne, of South Haven, and Mr. Homan, although born in Bellport had lived in South Haven, came to Sayville right after their marriage and made their home in their new house on South Main Street. Mrs. Homan was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Osborne. Her mother who was born in Sayville, was Miss Amelia Edwards, of the Sayville Edwards family. Mr. Homan was employed by Nelson Strong and later served for many years as a foreman for Robert Nunns, who built many of the larger houses in this vicinity. Still later, the firm of Wines and Homan was formed and did considerable building on the east end of the island.
Mr. and Mrs. Homan have one son, Carroll Homan, who makes his home in Lynbrook. Among the guests on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Homan, their daughter, Miss Ruth, of Lynbrook, and the former Miss Marjorie Homan, who is now Mrs. John Bendz, of New Orleans, and her infant son, John, and Robert Homan, the youngest son, who is in high school. David Homan, the elder son, is in the Army, serving at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Homan are among the oldest members of the Congregational Church, for which Mr. Homan was a deacon for many years. They were active members as long as they were able to be out, seldom missing a service or any church activities. Mrs. Homan was also active in other affairs of the village and was one of the founders of the Sayville Library. She was the first president of the board of trustees of the library and retained that position for more than 15 years, during the time when the women supported the institution by their own hard work.
