5. Gersham Brown, s. of Benjamin Browne by his 1st w. Mary Tuthill, b. in Oyster Ponds (Orient) cir. 1746; d. in Middle Island, Sept 22, 1801 in 55th year of his age. Buried Middle Island Cemetery. M. Mary Miller of Miller's Place, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, N.Y. She was b. Jan 1746; d. Nov 1, 1802, as 56 years, 10 m. Owned and lived on the land willed to him by his father Benjamin. He signed the "Association" in Brookhaven Town, in support of the Provincial Congress of New York and the Continental Congress, thus entitling his descendants to join the Sons of the Revolution or the Daughters of the Revolution.
Children as named in his will:
1. George, b. Sept 17, 1779, ancestor of the Robinsons, Hamlyns, and other old Bellport families through marriages of his daughters into these families.
2. Benjamin, b. Sept 25, 1784; drowned off Old Inlet, Nov. 5, 1813
3. Mary, who m. Baily or Bayles
4. Martha, who m. Bryant Davis; d. Jan 25, 1862, æ. 89-3-20.
5. Dorothy, who m. s Randall
6. Sabra ("Sabery") probably d. unmarried.
He (Gersham) seems to have been the first one of his line to have dropped the final e from his name, spelling it just plain Brown.
