Family Record of John Rose of Long Island: This family record was found in by Bernice Weir of Huntington, Long Island, when she was helping Sister Eileen Cleater, former head of Trocair, a Catholic organization. They had been willed the contents of an old home (that of Marie M. Baddetty who died at 105). While dusting a new Bible, photocopies from an old Bible fell out, and are here presented.
John Rose, descendant of Robert Rose of Southampton and East Hampton, Long Island, married Elisabeth Rose, daughter of the Rev. David Rose ... of the Branford and Wethersfield, Connecticut, family. Thus, this marriage joined these two Rose families....

Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Swezey, 72, of Brookhaven, the widow of the late William Swezey, who died last week in Yaphank after an illness of 18 years was hel Saturday afternoon in the Brookhaven Episcopal church by the Rev. Frederick Compson and interment was in Yaphank cemetery. The musical service was given by Miss Ellen Learned and host of friends were in attendance. Mrs. Swezey had been confined for 18 years with paralysis.
I think it unlikely that Fannie was ever married, and the William Swezey mentioned in the obituary was actually her brother. She had been confined for 18 or so years in Yaphank, perhaps part of the time at the Suffolk County almshouse. The obituary was part of the "doings in Brookhaven" column, and may have been written by someone who did not know her or her family well. He brother had predeceased her by nine years, and apparently left the estate in trust for her care. The family homestead was destroyed about 1920.
