  • Notes
    • [Who is Ann Eliza Gildersleeve?
The 1850 Census indicated an Ann E. Gildersleeve (age 2) living in the household of Benjamin (age 54) and Mary (age 59) Gildersleeve. This child seems too young to be their child. In 1860, an Eliza Gildersleeve (age 12 same age as Ann E.), isiving in Benjamin and Mary's household.
While another source indicates that Benjamin's son, Jonas G., had a daughter Mary A. E. Gildersleeve, it not certain that this Mary A. E. Gildersleeve is the same person as Ann E. or Eliza -- despite the matching middle initials. By 1860, Jos was living in another household in the Hamlet, with Jane, probably his wife.
While it was likely that Eliza of the 1860 census was the same as the Ann E. of the 1850 census, it seems less likely that she was Jonas' daughter -- or in 1860 it would seem that she should living in Jonas', not Benjamin's, household.]
