Capt.Rufus Tuthill's wife was indeed Mary Dimon, but she was born in Jamesport, daughter of Jonathan and Mary Budd Dimon. This can be substantiated by referring to the contemporary Salmon Records and the Dimon Bible Records.
Unfortunately there is often confusion between the North Fork and South Fork Dimons who are not related as verified by DNA testing. Likewise Mary's aunt Deborah Dimon, wife of Stephen Conklin of East Hampton, who removed to Morris County,NJ,was
also a North Fork Dimon, daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Salmon Dimon of West Mattituck(now Laurel). This has been addressed in the Suffolk County Historical Society publication.
